After years of intensive research, the banded mongoose population at Mweya is habituated to the presence of observers and can be filmed from only a few metres. We can provide daily access to multiple habituated groups, and can also arrange accommodation, food and transport. All filming must be first approved by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (see link).
The Mweya Banded Mongoose Project population have featured in several documentaries including:
From the BBC website:
"Living in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park they treat the place like they own it. Never far from trouble, they're a boisterous, cheeky, and extremely mischievous troop of Banded Mongooses. But don’t be taken in by their cute looks. These are hard-nosed survivors who hide a terrible secret.
Willing to stand up to lions, eagles and animals far larger than themselves, these are dedicated and fearless parents. But they do have a dark side. The large number of breeding females and synchronised births in the troop means that overnight dozens of pups are born - but by morning most will be dead. Who killed the pups and why?
Never far from trouble, a group of cheeky and mischievous Banded Mongooses live in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park."
